Haider Ackermann

For the Au/Wi of 2011 season, Haider Ackermann set the world of womenswear elegantly aflame. So entrancingly did he destroy our preconceptions of what it means to be a woman, that we had not the time to care of what we left behind, but only to wait in anticipation for what would next transcend on his runway. All sat, still smoking, and waiting with bated breath for his presentation of the Spring 2012 season...

And disappoint us, he did not.

Displaying once again a savvy for intriguing composition (see his layering of washed leather vests under silk suit jackets), and a mastery of color so strong as to rival Yves Saint Laurent, Haider proved once again to be a virtuoso of design. As the models glided on flat-soled oxfords with slow pace and ease of manner, I was reminded of the late shows of Romeo Gigli. The whole experience felt unmarkable in time, the models, of some beautiful new gender where the masculine strength of form and womanly softness of silhouette blend together in harmony. In a time where the future seems to wield a man more confident in his femininity, and a woman in her power, Haider Ackermann's collection could not come at a better time.

"I want her to be that luxury of decadence to let everything go.", said he, backstage as an explanation for the wonders we had seen.

And our response to that is...so do we.

Don't you just love a man in a print? Seventies psych sunbursts at Burberry and Y'OH...

Vogue Villains Strike Again

The LVMH empire was struck once again this past Friday as 400K worth of Louis Vuitton merchandise was stolen from Paris' Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport. Allegedly, a band of masked marauders held 5 store associates hostage, and made off with their stylish spoils.
A month has yet to expire since Marc Jacobs' entire Sp/Su 12 collection was stolen during a routine train transfer, and the fashion world has begun to wonder...

....Where is our Super Hero?

What the innocent and helpless fashion community needs now is a vigilante...Gareth Pugh and his army of aphotic architectural warriors, Sarah Burton and her school of deceptively serene sea sirens, Alber Elbaz in a beautifully draped silk capelette...
Until then, the design world is a sitting (albeit dashing) duck. Where will the masked villains strike next? For now we wait, weary and wanting of a hero to call our own.

Enquiring Minds Want to Know...

...Are new shoes better than sex?

Reveling in the post-consumer glow, I lean towards YES!

SUPER Fresh

Twas a beautiful sunny day today, and as the sun glared unmercifully from the many panes of our City of Glass, I couldn't help but daydream of slipping on a pair of SUPER's freshly released Winter 12 shades. If it wasn't for the fact that I'd most likely either a)leave them in a grimy bathroom, or b)sit on them, I would start saving now...Until them, let us ogle...

California Song

Today marked the MOCA Pacific Design Centres opening of "California Song", the first archival exhibit of Hedi Slimane's extant documentation of Cali's hedonistic heroes. The presentation includes a motion photography installation to the reverbs of California bands Ariel Pink and No Age.

Concurrent to the opening is the appearance of 89 billboards showcasing Slimane's work, strewn about the boulevards and strips of L.A.

The show will be open through the new year, coming to a close on January 22nd. Let me know if you happen to find any good deals on Vancouver-L.A. flights!
